The scale-up challenge

Many international projects fail not at the specification stage but during production scale-up — when lab-proven mixes encounter industrial batching variability, fiber dispersion limits, curing constraints, and logistics for oversized elements.

UHPC Lab supports partners through a structured OEM workflow aligned with ISO 9001 thinking and project-specific performance envelopes.

Stage 1 — Technical scoping

Define component geometry, performance targets (fcm,28, GF, DRCM where applicable), fiber type and dosage, curing method, and applicable standards (GB/T 31387, ACI 239R, project-specific durability tests).

Stage 2 — Lab validation (0.05–0.2 m³)

  • Particle packing and W/B optimization
  • Rheology: slump-flow, V-funnel, or project-specified protocols
  • Mechanical and durability screening
  • Connection detail mock-ups where structural connections govern acceptance

Stage 3 — Industrial trial (≥ 3 m³)

  • High-shear colloidal mixing with silica fume dispersion control
  • In-line rheology monitoring where available
  • Steam or heat treatment cycles if early strength release is specified
  • QC records: batch weights, temperature, cube/cylinder breaks, UPV if required

Stage 4 — OEM production release

Approved mix designs transfer to factory SOPs with:

  • Raw material acceptance criteria
  • Mixing time and energy limits
  • Curing charts and demoulding strength checks
  • Traceability (batch IDs, optional RFID for precast units)
  • Export packaging and logistics for elements up to 30 × 4 × 2.5 m where applicable

What specifiers should request from OEM partners

Ask for trial batch reports, not brochure strengths. Request full traceability from cement and silica fume lots through curing records to dispatch.
